Mr. Adams Is Laid to Rest
The funeral services of J. Wesley Adams, who died at his home of his son, Will, in this city, last Sunday, was held from the Salt Creek Baptist church, near Wakefield, yesterday. E. J. Meacham, pastor of the First Christian church accompanied the funeral party and had charge of the services. The party left Portsmouth on the 7:30 a. m. train and returned on the 7:30 p. m. train. A large number of relatives and friends gathered in the church to show their respect for an old neighbor and friend. The four sons, Will, George, Walter and Charles, were pallbearers. The only daughter, Mrs. Anna James and the only brother, W. C. Adams of St. Louis, are the only other relatives living. His wife and four children had preceeded[sic] him into the Great Beyond. This funeral occasion was a very sad one and sorrowing relatives lingered long around the grave.
