Served in CSA Civil War; ADAMS, Thomas M.; Company I of Russell's 20th Tennessee Cavalry, C.S.A. He is buried in Corinth Cemetery. Son of James Adams and Susan Martin, originally from Halifax county, Va Listed on the 1910 Weakley Co., TN District 8 Census as a Confederate Veteran.
Thomas Martin Adams was born July 8th, 1836 in Virginia and died December 15th, 1919. Thomas married Martha T. Somers on September 18th, 1862 in Weakley County. Martha was born on June 27th, 1840 in Tennessee and died on August 15th, 1915. They are buried in Corinth Baptist Church cemetery in Weakley County. They had nine children and farmed on Rock Hill near Sharon. Family lore is Thomas Adams lived his life fully but not in accordance with Martha?s will. He was a Confederate cavalryman, a noted fiddler, a farmer and he liked to drink and gamble. He bought his father?s fiddle at auction for twenty-five cents and he spent a lot of time playing it. Martha, Grandma Matt as her family affectionately called her, finally took over the family finances. She did the banking and ran the farm and the household. The fiddle remains in the family and descendents live today on the land they inherited from them.
