Biography

Janet Aide was born before 1732 based on the birth date of her first known child. Her death date is not known. She married John McOwan before about 1754, again based on the birth date of their first known child.

There are multiple Janet Aides of the right age and location to be this Janet. Most likely she was the daughter of Andrew Adie and Janet Dinn. An Andrew Aide of "Black Hills" was a witness at the birth of her son Robert McOwan.^[1] Furthermore, Andrew married Janet Dinn at Killearn, Stirlingshire, on 28 December 1721,^[2] and Scottish naming traditions would dictate that their third daughter would be named Janet. This is flimsy evidence to be sure, and additional research is needed.

Janet Aide and John McOwan had the following known children:

1. John McOwan, baptized at Killmadock, Perthshire, Scotland on 28 February 1755.^[3]
2. James McOuan, born before about 1759, based on his marriage to Isabel Morison at Kilmadock on 21 November 1779.^[4]
3. Robert McOuan, baptized at Kilmadock on 8 February 1761.^[1]
4. Elizabeth McOuan, baptized at Kilmadock on 12 August 1764.^[5]
5. Agnes McOuan, born before 1766 based on her marriage to Robert Headrig at Kilmadock on 1 August 1788.^[6]
6. Henry McOuan (1766-1848)

The date of Janet's death is not know. The baptismal record for her last known child, is her last record found
