Biography
Paul, son of Marion "Cleo" Akers and Lola Beatrice Rogers,[1] was born 23 January 1911 in Morgan County, Indiana.[1][2] His parents separated after 12 September 1918, when his mother was listed as the contact on his father's draft registration.[3] By 1920, Paul E. (age 9) and his father Cleo M. Akers (34) lived with Paul's paternal grandparents Marion Johnson Akers (64, barber) and Emma Eunice Prather Akers (61, milliner) in the home they owned in Martinsville, Morgan County.[4] The household unit remained stable in 1930: M. J. Akers (age 74), Emie (71), Cleo (44) and Paul (19, garage night-man) continued to live together in Martinsville.[5]
His grandparents—with whom he lived most of his life—died in 1936 (Emma)[6] and 1940 (M. J.).[7]
