James Alexander has been a brick wall. On many of his children's documents, he is listed with different names, ex. James, Jas, Jake,

James was married to Margaret Killough, Killlow, kelough. I have found her in census records with the children but have not found James with the family. There are many Alexanders in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg and Monroe/Union County North Carolina area. I continue to research this family hoping to uncover the true identity of James.

I know that James (J. W.) probably fought in the Civil War but until I find his true identify, I cannot locate his Civil War Service Record.

Marriage of J. W. Alexander and Margaret Kelough dated 9 July 1868. Found a Marriage License for J. W. Alexander and Margaret Kelough dated filmed by Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Register of Deeds dated 9 July 1868. The License lists the parents of J. W. Alexander as C. C. Alexander as father and Lucinda Alexander as Mother. Margaret Kelough's parents are listed as Wm. Kelough and Mary Kelough.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
