Brigadier General Darr Hayes Alkire was a pilot for the United States Army Air Service, United States Army Air Corps, the United States Army Air Forces, and the United States Air Force. He was the senior officer in command of the West Compound at Stalag Luft III prisoner of war camp after being shot down and captured in 1944.
Darr was born in 1903. He was the son of Chester and Henrietta Alkire.He served in the US Army Air Forces during World War II.
He died in 1977 and was interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.[1]
