Sherman was born January 31, 1905 in Port Elgin, New Brunswick. He was the son of Wesley Allen and Ruth Trenholm.His parents were farmers.[1]
He started working for the Canadian National Railway circa 1928 and was a trackman by 1942.
On May 14, 1942 he died in Maccan, Nova Scotia where he had been living for 10 months after an accidental fall off a train car causing a head injury. He was interred at the Fernwood Cemetery in Port Elgin, New Brunswick.[2][3]
