Biography
There were 4 Janet Alstons having children between 1747 and 1853. One of them may be our Janet. John may have died early, and Janet would have remarried. Janet’s father’s name comes from her marriage record. There was a Janet Alston born to John Alston and Jane Hamilton on January 18 1708 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire and a Janet Alston born to John Alston and Marion Hunter on March 30 1709 in Covengton and Thankerton, Lanarkshire (this last was most likely the Janet who married Alexander Broun). There were 8 Janet Alstons recorded as having children in Lanarkshire between 1825 and 1845, and several more shortly after that. And there were 2 Janet Alstons born to a James Alston in 1704 and 1713. Obviously there are several baptism records missing. None of the parents’ names matched with our Janet Alston’s child or grandchildren.
