Thomas Jefferson Anderson was born in about 1785 in Bedford, Virginia, the son of Captain Thomas Anderson and Sarah Howard, granddaughter of Allen Howard, magistrate of both Goochland and Albemarle Counties.
Thomas married Ann Meriwether Thomson in Bedford, Virginia on 23 May 1806. Ann’s Mother, Elizabeth Anderson, was a first cousin to the famed explorer, Captain Meriwether Lewis. This made Anne first cousin once removed to Thomas Jefferson Anderson. Their children were:
Thomas and Ann brought their children to Nashville circa 1845. Their two oldest daughters moved to Indiana. Louisa Anderson Winfrey and three sons (Thomas Allen Howard Anderson, David N. Anderson and John Smith Anderson) remained in or near Nashville.
Ann died in 1848 and the 1850 United States Census for Davidson, Tennessee shows Thomas, 65, living with his son-in-law Samuel Winfrey, 46, Thomas’ daughter Louisa Anderson, 29, Sarah Cobbs, 27, Samuel Cobbs, 4, and William Cobbs, 2.
Thomas died of cholera on 31 May 1854 at age 69 in Davidson, Tennessee. He was buried in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee in the old Nashville cemetery next to his wife. Their graves were later moved, possibly to Mount Olivet Cemetery.
