F. 17th Virginia <p>. <p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%;">Calvary, known as the "Night Hawk Rangers;" Received a Certificate of Merit for Battles of Western Maryland, wounded at Monaccy, MD, 9 Jul 1864. Got a miniball in his left elbow and wouldn't let the hospital operate. "Would rather lose his life than his arm." As a result, his arm became 1 12 inches shorter than his right arm. Under Gen. Mc- Causland's command of 17th Calvary at Monaccy, beat the &%#&* (tar) out of Gen. Lew Wallace. <p>. <p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%;"> </p>. <p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%;">Pitt helped build the Parkersburg High School and almost lost his life in the quick sand; owned a team of fine black horses and a black surrey with the fringe on top, which he kept beside his home in what we now call a carport.<p>.
