Biography

Milton was born in 1844, the son of John Anderson and Harriet Phillips. He appears in the 1850 census of Deerfield, MI at age 6, incorrectly machine read as 'Newton' ^[1]

He also appears more clearly as 'Milton P Anderson' in the 1870 census of Fenton, MI at age 26 in the household of his parents John Anderson and Harriet ^[2]

He served in the Union Army during the civil war in the 10th Mich Infantry, discharged in 1865 ^[3]

He married Marion J Stanford before 1872 based on the birth of their first child Cooley Cash Anderson in 1872 or 1873 ^[4]

The 1880 census of Midland, MI lists him as an 'Insurance Agent' with wife Marion and son 'Cash C. Anderson' at age 8 ^[5]

By the 1900 census of Missaukee, MI ^[6] they had added the following children:

1. Grace Anderson dau 19
2. Clarence Anderson son 17
3. Don Anderson son 9

He passed away in 1906, listed as a 'Banker', age 61 in Midland, MI ^[7] which also confirms his parents as John Anderson and Harriet 'Phelps'.

He is buried in the Midland City Cemetery in Midland, MI ^[8] The findagrave page includes his obituary with his account of how he was shot and details about his life and family. Among his relatives mentioned is 'Mrs. M.S. Knapp of Flint' who is his niece Florence Anderson, wife of Dr. Mark S Knapp and daughter of his brother John W Anderson.
