Biography

Martha Anderson was born on 22 Aug 1896 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, daughter of Robert J Anderson and Catherine Mulford.

The 1900 Census[1] shows her at age 3 with her parents in the home of her maternal grandparents in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.

The 1910 Census[2] shows her at age 13 in the home of her father and step-mother in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. She attended school within the census year.

The 1920 Census[3] shows her at age 23 in the home of her father and step-mother in Wyoming Village, Springfield Township, Hamilton County, Ohio.

Martha married Wade Phillips Shepard on 15 Apr 1920 in Hamilton County, Ohio.[4] Their children:

  1. Cecil Shepard (1921–2014)
  2. William Wade Shepard (1923–1979)
  3. Robert A Shepard (1925–1925)

The 1930 Census[5] shows her at age 33 with her husband, two children, and a servant in Wyoming Village, Springfield Township, Hamilton County, Ohio.

The 1940 Census[6] shows her at age 43 with her husband and two children in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.

The 1950 Census[7] shows her at age 54 with her husband and one son in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.

Martha died on 9 Jan 1970 in Mount Dora, Lake County, Florida,[8] [9] and is buried at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.[10] Excerpted from her obituary: [11]

MRS. MARTHA A. SHEPARD, 73, Bel Ayre Estates, Mount Dora, died Friday.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Shepard had been a winter resident of Mount Dora for the past eight years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club.

Survivors: husband, Wade Shepard, Mount Dora; son, William W. Shepard, Cincinnati; daughter, Mrs. Gordon B. McLelland, Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren. [11]
