Ann was born in Hindley, Lancashire on 6 Jul 1826 and baptised at All Saints Church, Wigan, Lancashire on 3rd September. She is the daughter of John Anderton and Mary Underwood.

In the 1841 census Ann (age 15) was in Gennell, Wigan, Lancashire, England. She was working as a Throstle Piecer. The work involved repairing threads when they broke in the spinning process on a throstle machine.[2]
She died aged 21 and was buried at All Saints Church, Wigan.
