Biography

Ballard was born in 1859, the son of William T Andrews and Elizabeth Gibbons Oliver. He married Dora Alice Hoover in 1881 in Bath, Virginia.^[1] A little less than a year later, their first born daughter, Nora Alice Andrews was born. ^[2] The following year, Willie was born,^[3] followed by Huldie in 1887 ^[4], Charles in 1889 ^[5] and Hansford Ballard in 1895. ^[6]

In 1897, his eldest daughter,Nora, married John Murphy^[7] at the age of 15.

A year after Nora's marriage to John, she gave birth to Georgia. Ballard's grandaughter, Georgia was married several times, but it was her first marriage to Ezra Dowdy that produced a son named Alpheus, Ballard's great grandson. He eventually took the adopted surname of Carle.

Lt Alpheus Carle served as the Flight Commander on B-29 #44-69799 that crashed on April 13, 1945. He later died in a prison fire in Tokyo. 1st Lt Carle continues to be listed as Missing in Action as his remains have never been identified. Ballard's great grandson, Alpheus is buried as an unknown in the American Cemetery in Manilla DPAA is actively pursing DNA for purpose of identification.

Ballard spent his life working as a farmer. He passed away in 1948. ^[8]
