Biography

1814 James was born about 14 August 1814 in Kingston Township, Delaware, Ohio, where his father James Sr. had recently moved to from New York. [1]
1837 On the 1st day of January 1837, Mr James Anway Junior, age 22, and Miss Caroline Jane Odle, about 16, were joined in Marriage in Delaware County, Ohio by Festus Sprague, Justice of the Peace[2]
Together they had 11 children between 1837 and 1863.
Caroline died in August 1867. James then married Nancy Miranda Watkins on 16 June 1868 at Franklin County, Iowa.[3] They had 6 children between 1869 and 1883.

  3. 1860 US Census James and his wife Caroline are living in Albion Township, Howard County, Iowa with 7 children. James and his family are Farmers. Census p 44, lines 34-40, lines 1-3 on next page [6]
  4. 1870 US Census James lived in Ingham Township, Franklin, Iowa with his wife Nancy and 11 children and a granddaughter[7]
1886James Anway, age 72, passed away on 2 April 1886 at Ingham Township, Franklin, Iowa [8]
He was buried at Harlan Cemetery, Butler, Iowa [9]
