Biography

Robert le Archer married Alice de Cormeilles,[1] the daughter of Margaret alias Margery de Cormeilles and her husband, Walter de Stokes.[2]

Robert married Alice before 16 May, 1236.[2]

Alice's mother died before 16 May, 20 Henry III [1236], and an Inquisition found her daughters, Alice and Isabel, were the heirs of Margaret's lands in counties Hereford and Gloucester, with one night's fee in Begesoure and Hennemerse in Gloucester held by James de Solers.[2]

A writ of extent was issued regarding Alice, late the wife of Robert le Archer, on 10 June 28 Henry III [1244], to the sheriff of Hereford.[3]

A writ was issued regarding Alice de Cormaylles on 23 November, and the resulting Inquisition, held in Hereford on Monday the vigil of St Thomas the Apostle, 45 Henry III [20 December 1261], found that Alice had held in Hereford, 2 carucates of land in Tatinton, Bolinghop and Clehungre of the king in chief, and with her younger sister, Isabel, two knight's fees in Hope Solers and Astun, also of the king in chief, and the said fees and tenements were held by service of a third part of the service pertaining to the barony of Cormeill'.[1] Colin le Archer, aged 23 and more, was her heir.[1]
