Biography

Stephen Archuleta Jr. is a Military Veteran.
Served in the United States Air Force 1949-1969 attaining Staff Sergeant
Served in Vietnam at Da Nang Air Base November Republic Of Viet Nam Nov. 1966 – Sept. 1967 as the Duty Commander, 834th Air Division Air Lift Control Element, Vietnam.

When Stephen Archuleta was born on January 27, 1930, in Las Animas, Colorado, his father, Steve, was 23 and his mother, Maclovia, was 21. Junior married Martha Virginia Caldwell in 1959 in Kanawha, West Virginia.

Military Service

Junior joined the Navy after High School, then switched branches to the Air Force. During his 20 year military career he was stationed in Oklahoma, N. Dakota, Alaska, England, Spain, and the Philippines. Junior was in active service during the Korean War years, and he did a one year Tour Of Duty in Vietnam (refer to badge). He retired as a Staff Sergeant.

During His Air Force Viet Nam Service February – May 1967 Junior was part of Operation Junction City, an 82-day military operation conducted by United States and Republic of Vietnam (RVN or South Vietnam) forces begun on February 22, 1967, lasting until May 14, 1967. It was the largest U.S. airborne operation since Operation Market Garden during World War II, the only major airborne operation of the Vietnam War, and one of the largest U.S. operations of the Vietnam War. In Retirement

When his military career ended Junior and Martha retired in Aurora Colorado. Junior and Martha had a cabin in Grand Lake, Colo. that they frequented and enjoyed for many years. Junior was known for his red convertibles cars and for being an avid fisherman.

Martha passed away several years before Junior. Steven Archuleta Jr. died on February 11, 2008, at the age of 78.

Junior & Martha are buried together in Fort Logan National Cemetery.
