Oral was born on 20 Aug 1897 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio. He was the son of Frank Arnold and Josephine Williams.[1] The family lived in Gallipolis in 1900[2] and Oral's mother died that year. By 1910, they had moved to Rendville, Perry County, Ohio, a small mining town.[3]

Oral served in the United States Army in World War I. He was a private in Company K of the 63rd Pioneer Infantry, He enlisted on 25 Sep 1918 and was discharged on 13 Dec 1918.[4]

Oral married Clyde L Smithers on 27 Feb 1923 in Perry County, Ohio.[5] They moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area, living in Miles Heights in 1930 and Garfield Heights in 1940. Oral worked for a stove manufacturer. Their census records don't list any children, but they did have a 12 year old ward in 1940.[6][7]

Oral died on 3 May 1974 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[8] He was buried in Highland Park Cemetery in Highland Hills, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[9][10]
