Biography

Emilia Louise ARONSON was born in England in 1842. ^[1]

According to her marriage certificate, she was the daughter of John ARONSON and Maria LAZARUS.

"The daughter of wealthy Jewish parents, Emilia left school at thirteen. When her first fiancé died, she suffered a breakdown and was sent to Australia with her brother to recover her health. Living with her sister in Melbourne, Emilia met Anglican bank manager Charles Baeyertz and married him in October 1865 without informing her family. With Charles, she settled in Colac and had two children. In 1871, Charles was killed in a gun accident and Emilia converted to Christianity shortly thereafter. She began jail and hospital visits, Sunday School teaching, and door to door evangelism in the Jewish community of Melbourne. She was an active member of the Young Women's Christian Association and undertook evangelical missions to Sandhurst (Bendigo) and Ballarat. From 1880 she was conducting missions throughout South Australia, and the Baptists reported over 100 conversions as a result. Emilia moved her campaign to Victoria, Queensland, New Zealand, and finally Britain and North America."

In 1865, she married Charles Baeyertz (sometimes seen spelt as Baryertz or Baeryertz in indexes) in Melbourne. ^[2]

Her marriage certificate lists no occupation for Emilia and that she was living at St Kilda. There were two women with the Maiden Name of ARONSON that had children in St Kilda around this time - David & Julia ROSENTHAL and Abraham & Eliza Marion BERENS. It is likely that one of these was the sister of Emilia that she was staying with.

"MARRIAGES.

BAEYERTZ—ARONSON.—On the 16th inst., at Christ Church, Hawthorn, by the Rev. W. Wood, B.A., Charles Baeyertz, jun., of Richmond, to Emilia, third daughter of John Aronson, Esq., Bangor, North Wales."^[3]

Charles Nalder BAEYERTZ born in Richmond Victoria, Australia on 15 December 1866- 1943^[4] Marion Cecily BAEYERTZ born in Colac Victoria, Australia in 1869 - 1952
