Clara Elizabeth Hills was born on 12 MAR 1860 at the Infirmary at the Union Workhouse in East Grinstead, Sussex She was the illegitimate daughter of Phoebe Hills who was aged 16. The father is not known On 12 Jun 1860, Phoebe married George Arthurell at St Michael & All Angels, Withyham, Sussex in England At Clara's baptism on 24 Jun 1860, the baptism record stated that George was not the father. Clara adopted her stepfather's name, Arthurell, after 1871. Clara married Henry Simmonds on 20 Nov 1880 and they had seven children, two of which died in infancy. On 4 JUL 1892, Clara was 32 when she succumbed to Tuberculosis
