Clifton Joseph Atkins was born on 21 Apr 1922 in Surry County, North Carolina, to Joseph McKinley Atkins and Lillie May Frances Corder Atkins.[1][2]
On the 1930 Census, he was 8 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, North Carolina.[3]
On the 1940 Census, he was 17 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, North Carolina. He had completed the first year of high school.[4]
On 30 Jun 1942, he registered for the World War II Draft in Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina.
Private First Class Clifton Atkins served in the United States Army in World War II Service started: 19 Nov 1942 Unit(s): Infantry Service ended: 21 Mar 1946
He enlisted in the United States Army on 19 Nov 1942 at Camp Croft in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He served in the Infantry during World War II and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. He was discharged on 21 Mar 1946 at the rank of Private First Class.[5][6][7]
On 27 Nov 1942 he married Josie Dorothy Doby). They had two children: Jeanette Faye Atkins and Frank A Atkins.[8]
On the 1950 Census, he was 28 years old and lived with his wife and children in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC.[9]
Clifton Atkins 46 of Dobson Rt 2 died yesterday after a heart attack at his home.
The funeral will be at 2 pm Sunday at the New Home Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was bom in Surry County to Joe and Lillie Corder Atkins.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Josie Doby Atkins; two daughters, Mrs. Brent Simpson of Ararat Rt 1, and Mrs. Eddie Butcher of Dobson Rt 2; his parents of Mount Airy Rt 8; and four brothers, Ivan and Carl Atkins of Mount Airy Rt 8, Troy Atkins of Dobson Rt 1. and Lacy Atkins of Mount Airy.
