Joannes Averihn was born on or a few days before 10 February 1660 in Markkotten Overin, Pye, Wallenhorst, Iburg, Osnabrück, Heiliges Römisches Reich, son of Friederich Averrien (~1634– ) and Anna Langenkampff (~1634– ).^[1] He was baptised in the catholic church St. Alexander in Wallenhorst on 10 February 1660.^[1] His godfather was Tepe Clausingk, and his baptismal witnesses were Margaretha Averins, and a Johan with a difficult to read last name (needs reading aid).^[1]

His siblings were:
