Abigail Babcock was born 14 Nov 1757, probably in New York. Her parents are unconfirmed. Abigail married Elias Secord 12 Sep 1779 in New York City.[1][2][3] Elias was born 30 Oct 1748 at New Rochelle, New York, son of "James A" Jacques Sicard and Jeanne Bonnett.[1][2][3]
During colonial times Elias was a blacksmith in Orange County, New York. During the American Revolution he went to the British lines in New York City. He was one of the signers, at West Point, of the 'Declaration' on 4/13/1775 to support the King.[4]
Elias and Abigail Secord left New York during the 1783 Loyalist exodus to New Brunswick and settled at Wickham, Queen's County, New Brunswick. They travelled with Francis Seacord, Israel Seacord, Joshua Seacord and Benjamin Seacord aboard the Loyalist Ship Bridgewater. The Bridgewater was part of the Loyalist Fleet that left New York on 16 Jun 1783 and arrived in New Brunswick 5 Jul 1783.[5]
Land grants to Elias Seacord include: registered grant in Nova Scotia 7/7/1784, registered (same) grant in NB 1/5/1785 - 200 acres, Belleisle, Sunbury County. Registered grant in NB 7/19/1786 - 761 acres, Long Island, Queens County, land to be divided into 84 lots. Same grant as brother William.
