Biography

This profile is part of the Babcock Name Study.

Phebe Babcock was born 17 Nov 1785 in Vermont and died 15 Jan 1857 at Lennox and Addington, Ontario.[1] She was the daughter of of David Babcock and Thankful Unknown. Phoebe is one of eight children mentioned in her father's will, and signed a quit claim when she received her equal share of the 50 acres of land at Ernesttown, Ontario left to them by their father.[1]

Phebe married 19 Mar 1800 Eli Samuel (Ely) Peters (1774-1846).[1] See also family record on this profile. They had at least three children: Joseph, Delila and Hannah.[2]

Will of David Babcock, father of Phebe Babcock[1]

David Babcock's will, dated 6 Nov 1812 at Ernestown, Ontario, was registered 30 Dec 1828, by which time his wife Thankful had died because the household effects then went to David's youngest daughter, Thankful. In his will David Babcock names his wife, Thankful, and all of their children. He was very specific for his wife, leaving her the household effects and farm animals, tools etc. for use until her death. The will was also very specific regarding equal shares in his property to each of his children. All of his children received equal shares of 50 acres of land.

David Babcock's eight children are listed in the deposition of receipt of a share of the 50 acres divided in David Babcock of Ernestown's will. His son-in-law, Ely Peters, was appointed Executor. This information comes from a quit claim deed found in the papers of Eli Peters, who was the executor of the will and married Phebe Babcock, daughter of David Babcock of Ernestown, Ontario. All eight children signed the quit claim stating they received their share of 50 acres as per the will.

Looks to me like this should be merged with Babcock-678

My family records show death in 1846, Babcock-678 shows 15 Jan 1857 - don't know how to resolve that
