Biography

John was born in England around 1846.

John is alleged to have committed suicide in Kalispell, Montana, on 14 July 1892. [1] The story was covered in The Anaconda Standard.[2]

Butte, July 14 - A telegram was received this afternoon announcing the attempted suicide in Kalispel of John York, formerly of this city, and brother of the late Thomas York, formerly foreman of the Gagnon mine. Mr. York had left Butte five weeks ago to work on the railroad at Kalispel. He has a wife and 13 children. ...
A dispatch was received this evening stating that Mr. York died at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

However, the family believes that John was the victim of a payroll robbery.

John was 56 years old at the time of his death. [3]
