Biography

Daughter of Robert Baird 1788–1872 and Margaret Davis 1792–1875, Marriage 30 April 1811 in Nicholas, Kentucky

In 1853, Alfred married Susan Baird (1831-1899). They were the parents of four sons: David, Robert Baird, William, Charles and John

"Born Susan Baird, married Alfred Knight in 1853 and relocated to western Illinois around 1859. Gave birth to sons, David, William, Charles, and John. Husband Alfred served in the Civil War enlisting in the 93rd Illinois Infantry Regiment on July 20, 1862, where he was later elected Captain of Co. F. Alfred would die at Milliken's Bend, LA of Typhoid Fever on April 29, 1863. He was buried in Vicksburg National Cemetery. Susan never remarried and spent her remaining years caring for her four children and living close to family in Ohio. Her lasting commemoration on her headstone was the name of the husband she lost in the Civil War."
