Biography
Horace was the son of Richard Baker, a cornish farmer and Olympia Uglow. He had 6 siblings, Thomas, Richard, Ada, William, Olympia and Hannah.
His father died in 1887 leaving Olympia to run the farm at Whiteleigh.
On October 3 1891, Olympia took her family of 7 children aboard the ship 'RMS Arawa' bound for New Zealand. She eventually settled in the south island at Christchurch and later Ashburton where she passed away in 1910 aged 60.
Horace settled in Marlborough and married in 1907 to Caroline Ellen Law. They had 5 known children, 4 of which were recorded before 1919, Francis Graham, Miriam Kathleen, Eleanor Agnes and Winifred Thelma.
The Baker family lived at Fairhall in the Marlborough area where Horace worked as a Farmer. On retirement, he moved to Blenheim.
He died in 1965 aged 85 and is buried at Omaka cemetery.
