Biography

Son of William Baker and wife Margaret, purportedly from Germany. His mother died in transit and was buried at sea; his father died in PA soon after arrival. Henry and a sister Elizabeth were cared for by a local family; he married Eva (Saylor?) probably in Germantown near Philadelphia around 1766. Came to Frederick County MD and raised a family of 4 sons and three daughters. Had a large farm on which he also ran a tanning operation.[1]
