Briscoe Gerard Baldwin (January 18, 1789 – May 18, 1852) was a Virginia attorney, politician, and jurist. Briscoe served two terms in the Virginia House of Delegates and served for ten years in the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Baldwin achieved the rank of major-general of the Virginia militia while continuing his military service as the leader of Augusta County's militia during his legislative and private legal careers.

Briscoe Gerard Baldwin was born on January 18, 1789, in Winchester, Virginia, United States, son of Cornelius Baldwin (1754–1826) and Mary Briscoe (~1760– ).

Briscoe (22) married Martha Steele Brown (20) (born about 1791; daughter of Revolutionary soldier Judge John Brown and Frances (Peyton) Brown) in 1812. His mother-in-law, Frances Peyton, of the First Families of Virginia (FFV) went to Staunton from Prince William County, Virginia and survived her husband and daughter. Their children were:

In the 1820 census Briscoe (age 30) was in Augusta, Virginia, United States. He was enumerated with six slaves.[1]Judge Baldwin also owned enslaved people during most (if not all) of his life. In the final census of his life, Baldwin owned 22 and 35 year old Black women.[2]

In the 1850 census Briscoe (age 60), Judge C T, was in District 2, Augusta, Virginia, United States.[3]

Briscoe died on May 18, 1852 in Staunton, Staunton City, Virginia, aged 63. He was buried in Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton, Staunton City, Virginia.[4]
