Notes

Note: All initial family information from p.66 of B. book
Russel is a single head (grain buyer) is the 1900 Census for Lynden, Cavalier, North Dakota
interestingly there is a James Balfour(b. 1847) on same page who is a flour miller, he is likely Russell's uncle, Samuel's brother -- don't know that but keep it in mind as we continue to work.
Serious problem with the 1920 US Census: We have much the same household, Orville and Ida the parents, and Matie (not Mary this time) the daughter, but the son-in-law is now quite clearly Arthur A Balfour, so is Russell's name really something like Arthur A Russel Balfour, is Russell a nick name? one nine year old female, Edith T but she seems to be noted a a niece rather than a grandaughter so may not be Matie's child
OK: 1930 census solves it for now: his name was "Arthur Russell", Russell was used initially but then he switched over, Terrel Edith is clearly shown as granddaughter on the 1930 census where "Edith" wasn't on the 1920. It seems fairly clear that they lived their life with the old folks.
WWI draft confirms above: Arthur Russel Balfour with correct date, place and wife (who is Mrs Matie Balfour) are all there, grain buyer and farmer.
