Biography

Born Thomas was born in 1874 ^{[1] [2]}, the son of James Barber and Emma Pryse ^[3].
After his father died in 1883 he returned with his mother and siblings to Stratford Essex, the home town of his father's family. In 1891 ^[4] he was living at 4 Gurney Road Forest Gate together with his mother, his sister Jane Ann Barber and his brothers William Trott and Lewis Stanton. Ten years later ^[5] he was "silk merchant's clerk" age 26, living with his mother and brothers William Trott Barber and Lewis Stanton Barber at "Radleigh" Tavistock Drive, Wanstead, Essex. Later that year he was witness at the marriage of his brother William to Louisa Calder ^[6]

In 1911 ^[7] Thomas, listed as Financial Manager Silk Merchant, was living with his mother at 45 Dover Road Wanstead; Vera Lilian May Holtermann, (25) "manageress costume department", is listed as "visitor".

Marriage Thomas and Vera married ^[8] on 14 April 1914 at St John, Deptford, Lewisham, ^[9]. Tom was listed as "secretary", living at Longhedge House, Silverthorne Road Battersea, the house of his brother John Watkins Barber who was also the witness. ^[10].
Thomas and Vera had four children:

In 1921 Thomas and Vera were registered in Huggin Lane London with abode at Ellwyn, Scotland Road, Buckhurst Hill Essex ^[11]. In 1925 ^[12] and 1929 ^[13] they were at the same address.

Died Thomas died age 57 in 1933 ^[14] and was buried on 30 January 1933 at St John the Baptist, Buckhurst Hill ^{[15] [16]}. Probate was granted on 21 March 1933 to Vera Swain, widow, William Trott Barber, brother and Robert Josiah Grant Commercial traveller; effects £49,540 1s 9d ^[17].
