Biography

Giuseppina was born in 1867, daughter of Antonino Barbera, a blacksmith, and Maria Reina ^[1]. She married Giacinto Giambalvo on Christmas Day, 1887 ^[2]. They had 6 children, five of whom survived. She died in 1897 at age 30, probably from childbirth complications from her last birth (daughter Margaret). Giuseppa's marriage record says she was a seamstress, a skill that she passed on to her daughter Angela who then taught it to sister Margaret. Both were accomplished dressmakers.
