Joseph Gurney, son of Robert and Elizabeth Barclay, was born on 24 October 1816. His birth would have been registered at a meeting of the London and Middlesex Society of Friends.[1]
In 1841 he was living in Leyton, Essex with all his siblings.[2]
He married Mary Walker Leathman in Huddersfield in the second quarter of 1842.[3] How he came to be in Huddersfield has not been determined.
By the 1851 census Mary had died and Joseph was living in Walthamstow with his two young sons. He was a Banker.[4]
Joseph married again in Hitchen in 1857 - to Margaret Exton. At the 1881 census he was living in Leyton, Essex and his wife was Margaret aged 60, born in Hitchen.[5]
