Research Notes

There is another Whitehead family in Southampton County in 1860, but it doesn't make sense that the S. Whitehead of this family would be the daughter of Julia Barden and unknown Whitehead, as this family is white.

In 1860 S. Whitehead was age 12. She was in the family of W. Whitehead, farmer, age 42, b Virginia. East Side Nottaway River, Southampton, Virginia. The wife of W Whitehead was N Whitehead, age 30. M Whitehead (female) was age 15. S. Whitehead was age 12; M. Whitehead (female) was age 10; O. Whitehead (female) was age 8; W. Whitehead (male) was age 5; T. Whitehead (female) was age 1; H. Joyner (male), laborer, was age 16. The race of this household is not recorded but is assumed to be white.[12]
