Betsy (Barfield) McKenzie migrated from South Carolina to Texas.
Elizabeth was born in 1837 to Benjamin Barfield and Mary Clark Lee. [1]She married William Lewis Hickson in Clarendon, South Carolina where they made their home. Elizabeth and William had three children.[2]
William Lewis Hickson died in battle during the Civil War in New York. Elizabeth "Betsy" remarried Asa Wheeler McKenzie of Florence County, South Carolina. Of this second union, was issue of five children.
Sometime between 1874 and '77, the Hickson-McKenzie Family moved to Texas and settled in Walker County.[3][4][5] She passed away in 1914 and is buried in Black Jack Cemetery, Phelps, Walker County, Texas.[6]
