Capt. Joshua Barker was born in Marshfield, Massachusetts Bay on September 26, 1715. He was the son of John and Bethiah (Foord, aka Ford) Barker.
Joshua married Mary Throope on November 8, 1739 in Lebanon, Connecticut. They settled in New Lebanon and had 8 children including Eliphalet b. 1740, Mary b. 1744, Lydia b. 1746, Bethiah b. 1749, Nehemiah b. 1751, John b. 1754, Rebeckah b. 1759, and Joshua b. 1763.
Joshua was a soldier in the French and Indian War, 1755-62. His rank was Commission Officer & Captain in the 2nd Regiment of Connecticut under Command of Colonel & Captain Nathan Whiting, Eleventh Company. Joshua served as Co-Commander and Captain during Lebanon's Campaign Year 1758 per Muster Roll.
At age 68, Joshua passed away on February 23, 1784 in Hingham, Massachusetts. He is buried in the Old Cemetery, Lebanon, New London, Connecticut.
