Biography

John Barker was born in 1714 in Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Province, New England. He was the son of Caleb Barker and Ann Carr. His father was a "bell founder" [metallurgist, bell manufacturer] in Plymouth.

On 27 January 1736, John Barker gave his intentions to mary Grace Turner in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, New England. [1]

In 1761 he and his family joined his mother & father in migrating from Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Province, to newly-formed Lincoln County, Maine District, Massachusetts Bay.

He died there on 10 May 1783.

Research

The Barker Genealogy references a second marriage to Susanna Estes in 1761 but provides no death date for Grace Turner. It also has a marriage date of 1748. [2]

They list the following children were born in Hanover, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, New England:

  1. Caleb b. ~1749, d. 1843
  2. Nancy

Possbily HALF SIBLINGS from Sussanna Estes but this would need to be verified.

  1. John b. 1763, d. 1814
  2. Carr b. ???, d. 12-25-1832

The daughter Nancy has been disputed by the Richard Warren work [3] Their marriage date here is stated as June 1,1737 in Hanover, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, New England. Their intentions were made in Scituate on January 27, 1736. They list the following children and dates:

  1. John b. 1738
  2. Carr b. ~1739 based upon death date
  3. Caleb b. ~1749
