Seen on 1850 census with his parents in Nunda, Livingston Co, NY. Son of Amos & Sophia Barker. Husband of Mary Carver.

"Amos Barker b. Aug. 1800 Augusta, Oneida Co., NY. Settled in Livingston Co., NY in 1827. His wife was Sophia Tracy b. Feb. 7th, 1796 CT. They were married in 1827 and she died in 1875".

By 1880, Joseph Barker (age 42) and his wife, Mary, are living in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. His occupation is listed as "Dentist". On the 1900 census, he and Mary are in Tryon, Polk Co., NC. They had no children. His occupation is listed as "tooth Dentist". By 1910 Mary is widowed so Joseph must have died between 1900 and 1910.

Joseph M. Barker served as a Private in Company I, First New York Dragoons. His name appears in the book "Regimental History of the First New York Dragoons" on page 54 as being from Nunda, NY.

"A Former Resident Dead Dr. J. M. Barker, formerly of Lake Geneva, died at Tryon, North Caroline April 28, after a prolonged illness. He was born in Nunda, N.Y., December 1, 1837. During the Civil War he served in Company I, 1st New York Dragoons. Soon after the close of the war he came to Wisconsin with his wife, Mary A. Carver, of Nunda, and remained in Wisconsin until he went to Tryon in search of health in the autumn of 1895. For a number of years Dr. Barker and his estimable wife lived in our city and will be remembered by many of our readers. Mrs. Barker has the sympathy of her many Lake Geneva friends in this, her hour of affliction."
