William was born in 1848. He was the son of Hamilton Barlow and Cynthia Ferguson.

William Barlow was a Prisoner of War during the United States Civil War.

William enlisted at age 17 on/About 16 Apr 1862 in Company H of the 55th Infantry Regiment of NC[1]. He mustered out of this unit on 1 Jun 1862. He enlisted again, this time with a Virginia regiment. He was captured on 6 Oct 1864 at Roa?? County, West Virginia. The record showed he was in the 19th Virginia Cavalry, Co. G. Then on 24 Oct 1864 he “took the oath and was returned to the Rebel Army, sent to Camp Chase”.

After the war he returned home and got married on 18 Sep 1872 to Thursa Elmyra/Elmira Sudderth. They settled in Caldwell County, NC where they had 7 children. It is here he passed away on 13 Apr 1925. He is buried in the Lower Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
