Sam Barnes, Jr., was born in 1908 in Leon County, Florida, United States. He is the son of Sam Barnes, Sr. and Mariah (Unknown) Barnes.

The 1920 Federal census records Sam, 12 years old, residing on the On Dipie [Dicie?] Highway in the household of his parents and siblings in Precinct 14 of Leon County. He attends school but cannot write.^[1]

In 1929, Sam married Sarah A. in Leon County.

Sam, age 32, and Sarah are recorded in the 1940 census in Leon County. The household includes his niece and nephew.^[2]

Sam Barnes, Jr., 70 years old, passed away March 11, 1979 at his home in Leon County.^[3] His obituary was published in the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper in Tallahassee on Wednesday, March 14 on page 7.^[4] He is buried in the Indian Branch Pallbearers Lodge No. 25 Cemetery in Tallahassee. A gravestone marks his burial site.^[5]
