Biography

Birth

Nothing is known for certain of the ancestry of John Barrett of Sumner, Maine. Based on his age at his death from his gravestone, he was born about 1785.[1] He was probably the John Barrett born at Carlisle, Massachusetts, on 13 Sep 1784 to Simeon Barrett and Ruth (Wright) Barrett;[2] his father moved to Sumner and died there in 1832.[3]

Marriage

On 21 May 1810, the town clerk of Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), certified "that an intention of marriage between Mr. John Barrett of Sumner and Miss Ruth Winslow of Livermore hath been entered with me fourteen days prior to the Date hearof [sic] and hath been published in Livermore as the Law Directs."[4]

Death

A gravestone at the Hersey Cemetery in Sumner, Maine, says that John Barrett died on 20 Feb 1840 at the age of 55.[1]
