Homer Lester Bartchy was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, on 29 December 1910, a son of James Lester Bartchy and his wife, who was born Ruby M. Bailey. Both parents were natives of Ohio. His father's occupation was recorded as telephone operator.[1] Some records give Homer's birth date as 28 December 1910 or 28 December 1911.
The 1920 U.S. Census recorded Homer as "nephew" in the household of John C. Scott, age 37, a carpenter, and wife Bertha M. Scott, age 39, in Knox Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Children in the household were daughter Ruth A. Scott, age 6, and nephews Homer L. Bartchy, 9, and Eugene O. Bartchy, age 6. The three Scotts were born in Ohio to parents born in Ohio. Their nephews were born in Pennsylvania to parents born in Ohio.[2]
Under the name Homer Brooks, he served as secretary of the Texas Communist Party.
He married Emma Tenayuca in 1938. They divorced in 1941.
Homer L. Bartchy died in Los Angeles, California, on 23 September 1965. The record indicates that he was born on 28 December 1911 and his mother's maiden name was Bailey.[3]
