Elizabeth was the daughter of William Baxter and Fanny Baxter.

Lizzie moved to Scotland with the family and lived at Port Glasgow, Renfrew. At working age she was employed at a Sail Cloth Factory with her sister Isabella.
Several of her siblings emigrated to Port Arthur, Ontario, William, Isabella, Matilda and Ellen.
Her father passed away in 1920 aged 80.
In 1923 Lizzie married Robert McLachlan Crombie, a Carpenter. Soon after the marriage Robert sailed to Quebec on the ship SS Montrose arriving in July and making his way to Port Arthur. Lizzie boarded the Athenia in October that same year with her widowed mother and niece 3 year old Frances. Robert Crombie paid for Lizzie's fare.
Her age was estimated as 26, a 7 year variance to that stated in the 1911 Census. Lizzie's contact in Port Arthur was Robert Crombie of 294 High Street where her sister Ellen Tees and family lived. She named Isabella Melville of 9 Argyle Street, Port Glasgow as the nearest relative in the country from which she had come from.
Lizzie and Robert lived at Sydney Street, Port Arthur. He was employed as an Elevator Man likely working with William Baxter. Also living with them was Lizzie's mother. (1935 Canada Voters List) Lizzie and Robert later moved to Empire Avenue North living very near to William Baxter and his family. In 1945 Robert is now employed in a Shipyard as is William Baxter.
