ANN WALKER CARTER BAYTOP STUBBS passed away on Sept. 22, 1894. She was laid to rest in Valley Front Cemetery, a private family cemetery in Sassafras, Gloucester County, Virginia.

The inscription on her gravestone reads:

"Ann Walker Carter Stubbs, wife of Jefferson W. Stubbs, Esq., eldest daughter of Capt. James Baytop and Lucy Taliaferro Catlett, his wife, of Springfield, in the county of Gloucester, the ancient seat of the family and place of her nativity. She died on the 22nd September, 1894, in the 78th year of her age and the 60th of her marriage. She was of great and exemplary piety and charity and in every relation of life, whether considered as a Christian, a wife, a mother, a mistress, a neighbor or a friend, she was equaled by few and excelled by none.

Death came peacefully and with gentle step and with tender touch, framed a lullaby fit for a Christian's rest."

[4] A photo request of the headstone has been requested to verify the inscription.
