Samuel was born on June 20, 1822, Venango County, Pennsylvania[1]. He was the son of Samuel Beatty and Leah McFadden.
In the 1820 US Census for Samuel C. Beatty, Sugarcreek, Venango Pennsylvania, we find: 2 Males Under 10: Porter b 1816 age 4 and John b 1820 age 0; 1 Male 16 thru 25: Samuel C. b 1796 age 24; 1 Female 16 thru 25: Leah b 1795 age 25 [2]. It appears the first to children are Robert Porter and John, but the exact dates of birth are in question. John's gravestone says 2 Sep 1821(which I think is in error) other sources give different dates. Even though 2 Sep 1820 is after the 7 Aug 1820 date of the Census, it is possible that the census taker recorded the child after 2 Sep 1820 as part of the Census.
