Biography

Albert was born in 1886. He was the son of Paul Bechtold and Annie Tumler.

Page 6B shows Paul (54), Annie (48), Edward (23), Ghertrude (19), Clara (16), Albert (13), John (11) and George (8) living at 1334 Holman Street. The house is rented, Paul is a cigar maker and Edward is a shoemaker. Anna reports that 8 of her 12 children are still alive. Paul and Annie both report they and their parents were born in Germany. Paul reports he came to the United States in 1852 and Annie in 1856. All of the children were born in Kentucky. [1]

1909 - Kentucky, Kenton County, Covington, 1 May 1909
The Department of Health, Certificate of Death for the City of Covington shows Paul Bechtold, of 1334 Holman died on 1 May 1909. Cause of death is listed as chronic nephritis. He is listed as 64 years old and married. His father is listed as Ferdinand Bechtold of Germany and no listing for his mother. His occupation is a cigar maker. The informant was John Allison. He was buried at St. Mary's cemetery.

1910 – Kentucky, Kenton, Covington, Ward 5, District 106, 23 Apr 1910
Sheet 8A shows Anna (58), now a widow, is living with sons Albert (23), John (21) and George (18) at the home they rent at 1334 Holman Street. Anna reports that 8 of her 12 children are still alive. Albert is a cutter in a shoe factory, John is an adjustor in a shoe factory and George is an apprentice electrician. Anna reports she and her parents were born in Germany. [2]

1917 - Kentucky, Kenton, Covington
Albert Bechtold, living at 502 Johnson Street in Covington, is 30, when he completes his WWI Draft Registration Card. He reports he was born 9 Jul 1886 in Covington. He is employed as saloon keeper. He reports he is single but responsible for his mother. He is reported to be of medium height, a stout build and has blue eyes with light colored hair and slightly bald. [3]

1918 – Kentucky, Covington
The 1918 Covington City directory lists the following Bechtold families living in town:

1920 – Kentucky, Kenton, Covington, Ward 4, District 102, 13 Jan 1920
Anna (68) widowed, Albert (34) live in the rented house at 1109 Lee Street. The owners of the house appear to be the Yost family (William, Margaret and children). Albert is still a shoe cutter in a shoe factory. Anna reports she immigrated in 1866. [4]

1930 - Kentucky, Kenton, Sheet 1A of the census shows Albert Bechtold (43), wife Dolly E (42) and son Francis W (19) living in the home at 123 West 5th Street. The home is rented for $40 and appears to be occupied by two other families. The couple reports he was 37 and she was 23 when they first married which suggests Francis is his step-son and not his biological offspring. This assertion is proved positive when reviewing his death certificate and his the informant is listed as his step-son. Albert reports he was born in Kentucky and his parents in Germany. Dolly reports she was born in Kentucky, her father in Ohio and her mother in Germany. Francis was born in Kentucky. Albert was employed as a shoe cutter and Francis a copy boy for a newspaper. [5]

1940 - Kentucky, Kenton County, Covington, District 59-10, 8 Apr 1940
Sheet 3B of the census shows Albert Bechtold (53) and wife Elizabeth (52) living in the home at 221 West 5th Street. The home is owned and valued at $3,500. Albert reports he had a 4th grade education and wife Elizabeth completed the 8th grade. The couple was living in Covington in 1935. Albert was employed as a shoe worker in a factory and made $1,100 the previous year. [6]

1942 - Kentucky, Kenton, Covington
Albert Bechtold is living at 221 W. 5th Street in Covington and is 56 when he completes his WWII Draft Registration Card. He lists his date of birth as 9 Jul 1886. He lists his father, Mr. William Bechtold, living at 6th and Philadelphia, as his next of kin and his boss is Fred Smith at US Shoe in Hamilton, Ohio. He is reported to be 5'7" and weights 215 pounds with blue eyes, brown hair and ruddy complexion and has a scar on the back of his neck. [7]

1963 - Kentucky, Kenton County
Albert Bechtold, born 9 Jul 1885 in Covington, died 10 Feb 1963 at the age of 77. He was a shoe cutter for US Shoe. His parents are listed as Paul Bechtold and Anna Tuemey. The informant was George Working, his stepson. He had been ill for two weeks and died at Rosedale Manor. He was widowed at the time of his death. Cause of death was chronic myocarditis. He was buried at Mother of God Cemetery. [8] Albert Bechtold died 10 Feb 1963 at the age of 77. Volume 8, Certificate 3743. [9] His SSN was issued in Kentucky before 1951 and his birth is listed as 9 Jul 1886 and he died in Feb 1963.[10]
