Biography
George Frederick Bidggood was baptised in Henley on 14 February 1836, he was the son of Charles Bedggood and Mary Price[1]
George worked as a clerk for the Great Western Railway between 1853 and 1857, and was employed at Paddington, Cheltenham and Slough stations. He resigned in October 1857. [2]
His parents emigrated to Australia in about 1853, leaving George behind. He visited them in 1858, sailing on 26 December 1857 from London on The Eagle, and arriving in Port Philip on 3 April 1858. [3]
He married Julia Ann Byrt on 17 April 1877, in Shepton Mallet Somerset. George was shown as a station master, and the son of Charles Bedggood, Julia was the daughter of Albert Byrt, a bookseller. [4]
George and Julia and their family emigrated to South Africa sometime before 1880. During that year George became a member of The Freemasons, in Queenstown, Cape of Good Hope. he was a railway officer [5]
George passed away in Plumstead, Grahamstown, Albany, Cape Province, South Africa on 31 May 1925, he was about 86 years old [6]
