Peter was born in 1830, the son of John Bell and Mary Richardson. He was baptised on the 7 March 1830 at Caldbeck, Cumberland, England.[1][2]
At the time of the England and Wales Census, 1841, the Bell family were living at Vicar Gate, Cumberland, England [3]. The family members present were: John Bell, Male, age 51, born in Cumberland; Mary Bell, Female, age 44, born in Cumberland; Peter Bell, Male, age 11, born in Cumberland; Addam Bell, Male, age 4, born in Cumberland. ["England and Wales Census, 1841]
It is believed he emigrated to Australia in 1856. In 1866, Peter Bell married Charlotte Hilet.[4]
During the 1870s Peter Bell and James Hilet had leases on various blocks of land in the area that is now Tahbilk and Mitchelton Wineries on the Goulbourn River near Nagambie. (map on hand)
Peter and Charlotte were married on 30 October 1866 at Heathcote, Vict, their first child John born 1867, but died the same year. Adam was next born in 1869. By 1877, Peter Bell had taken up land as a Selector on Toganmain Station, NSW and later owned 2 properties “Fair View’ approx. 12 miles from Deniliquin and ‘Bowna’ on the Toganmain Run, near Carrathool, NSW.
Peter Bell died on 8 June 1893 in Deniliquin, NSW and is buried in the Deniliquin Cemetery, and his wife Charlotte died 31 October 1923 in Albury, NSW and is buried in the Methodist Cemetery, Yackandandah, Vict., recorded age 61.[5] Issue John Bell, Adam Bell, Joseph Bell, Edith Bell, Richardson/Richeson Bell, Howard Bell, Charlotte Bell, Elizabeth Bell, Peter Bell, unknown male.
