James Ewell Bell was born on 29 Feb 1824 in Bridgetown, Northampton, Virginia, USA, son of Savage Bell (1796 - 1864) and Elizabeth Harmanson (Spiers) Bell (1797 - 1856).^[1]

James married Anne Frances Virginia Land (1832 - 1910) on 4 Dec 1850 in Virginia. Their son was William Keeling Bell (1872 - 1945).

James died on 27 May 1914 in Wilmington, New Hanover, North Carolina aged 90.
