Research Notes

Identifying the correct father of Philip - There are two Philip Bennetts around the same time

  1. Phillip Bennets baptised on 2 Aug 1772, son of John Bennets & Elizabeth, Perranzabuloe, Cornwall, but it appears that his parents did not have legal settlement there. In 1778 when Philip was five years old 1778, his parents were subject to a Removal Order from the Perranzabuloe back to Probus parish.[14]
  2. Philip Bennett baptised on 25 April 1779, son of Philip Bennetts & Jane in Perranzabuloe, Cornwall, his parents were residing in St Erme, Cornwall at the time. This Philip was mentioned in his father Philip Bennett’s probate records on 30 July 1807, which helps to confirm their kinship. See Philip Bennett's profile for more detail.[15] This is further supported by using his mother's forename for his eldest daughter which is consistent with the naming conventions for some families during this period.

Identifying the correct marriage for Philip - There are two Philip & Ann Bennetts that married around the same time.

  • Couple 1 - based in St Allen Phillip Bennets & Ann Rickard both of St Allen is the Philip Bennett of this profile[16] This is most likely the correct marriage as this is where the couple got married and had their children baptised.
  • Couple 2 - based in Lanivet Philip Bennett & Ann Saundry residing and married in Lanivet, Cornwall.[17]
